Shocking: Eight-year-old Dies From Kerosene Explosion

The Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of an eight-year-old boy from suspected adulterated kerosene that ignited fire in Umundu Community, Udenu Local Government Area. The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, said it occurred on Sunday night. Amaraizu said the boy and his family were in their house when the fire broke out and engulfed the whole apartment on that fateful day. He said: “It was gathered that the incident occurred when the victim, little Chikamso Nnamani, about 8 years old, had tried to refill their lamp with kerosene. “But unfortunately, the light went wild and quickly engulfed the whole house. “It was further gathered that as occupants were scampering for safety, the said Chikamso ran towards another direction where he was allegedly consumed by the fire.” According to Amaraizu, a full scale investigation has commenced into the incident. ASUU To FG: We’ll No Longer Honour Your Calls For Meetings

The Academic Staff Union of Universities says it may not honour further calls by the Federal Government for a meeting on the way forward over the current strike by its members. The union’s National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said this on the sideline of a news conference on the update of the union’s struggle to salvage the country’s public universities from deterioration on Sunday in Lagos. Members of the union, under the aegis of ASUU, had on November 4 embarked on what it had described as a “total, comprehensive and indefinite strike”. Members of the union were protesting the non implementation f agreements entered into with the Federal Government in 2009 and 2017, as well as funding and improved welfare for members, among other issues. Hijab Crisis: Court Grants UI International School Extension Of Time

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday granted an application for extension of time filed by the University of Ibadan International School Ibadan in a suit filed against it over the ban on wearing of Hijab by female Muslim students. The suit was instituted by some Muslim parents on behalf of their daughters after an initial protest that led to a brief shutdown of the school. Other respondents in the suit are the School Principal, Phebean Olowe; Chairman, Board of Governors, Prof. Abideen Aderinto; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the university. The Muslim parents that sued the school on behalf of their children are Taofeek Yekinni, Idris Badiru, Sikiru Babarinde, Muideen Akerele, Abdurrahman Balogun and nine others. Shocking: 20-year-old Docked For Alleged Sexual Intercourse With Goat

A 20-year-old man, identified as Promise Okon, appeared before an Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo State last Thursday for alleged sexual intercourse with a she-goat. Okon, whose address was not provided, is facing a count-charge of having sexual intercourse against nature, but he pleaded not guilty. The Prosecutor, Osayomabo Omoruyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 15 in Egor area of Benin. Omoruyi said the accused was caught having sexual intercourse with the goat by some neighbours, who arrested and took him to the police station. According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 214 (2) of the Criminal Law of Edo State. The Chief Magistrate, Egho Braimah, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. Three Burnt To Death In Kogi Motor Accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps said on Wednesday that three persons were burnt to death in an accident at the Total filling station area of Okene, Kogi State. Adelaja Ogungbemi, FRSC Unit Head in Okene, told newsmen that many people also sustained varying degrees of injuries and seven vehicles were completely burnt in the accident. He said that the accident, which happened at about 11:16pm on December 18, occurred when a fully loaded truck descending the slope lost its brake and in the process rammed into other vehicles. Ogunbgemi said the impact ignited a fire, which consumed the vehicles and their occupants. He said the timely intervention of his men and the support from people around prevented what could have resulted in a major disaster. According to him, the rescue efforts was hampered by the raging inferno as three trapped occupants were burnt to death. Ondo Restricts Commercial Motorcycles To Curb Crime

The Ondo State Government has announced a partial restriction on commercial motorcycles (Okada) across the state on Tuesday, 18th of December, 2018. The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi revealed this in Akure, the state capital that, the development was to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order. He said,  the activities of commercial motorcycles across its 18 Local Government Areas would now stop at 10pm daily. According to Olowolabi, any motorcyclist that is on the street beyond 10pm must not carry any load and must show evidence of ownership of such motorcycle. The commissioner stressed that the ban does not affect private motorcycle owners that may be going to work or attending to emergency. Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (SOLAN), Oyo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate has berated Governor Abiola Ajimobi for neglecting the Oke-Ogun zone in the last eight years of his administration. Lanlehin, who spoke at the Saki Day Celebration on Saturday, wondered why the state government hasn't deemed it fit to construct the Ibadan-Iseyin-Saki road despite the huge potentials abounding in that axis. Asuu Meeting with Federal Government Ended through Walk Away

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has staged a walkout from the ongoing meeting with a federal government delegation. The government delegation was led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The university lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike on November 4, demanding improved funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government. The National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, led the union’s delegation to Monday’s meeting. The ASUU delegation arrived at the ministry at exactly 5:00 p.m. but no member of the federal government delegation was around as at this time. The government delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, arrived at exactly 6:00 p.m. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, was absent at the time the meeting started.
