Ibadan North East LG: Subjects Calls For Reparation Of Pedestrial Bridge In Alawaye

Residents of Olagoke and Sule manager, Ibadan has called on the Ibadan North East Local Government for the reparation of the pedestrial bridge in Alawaye that is about to collapse last Wednesday. A resident, Dr Olufolajinmi while chatting with ETO IJOBA IBILE said, the bridge is collapsing gradually. Thus, it needs swift amendment or it would become useless afterwards. He further stressed that, this bridge linking Olagoke and Sule manager communities was commissioned during the tenure of Arole. He added that, the two communities are planing to write a petition to the LG Chairman now for urgent intervention. However, in their own struggle, the communities have tried clearing refuse on the surface of the stream and placed danger indications on the deepest sides for safety. Bank Robberies: Oyo Summons Security Chiefs

Stakeholders in security in Oyo State have been summoned to an emergency security summit aimed at nipping in the bud armed robbery attacks and other violent crimes on financial institutions being witnessed in the neighbouring states. The meeting, which was convened at the behest of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, was declared opened by the Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, at the house of Chiefs, State Secretariat, Ibadan on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the state command’s Director, Department of State Services, Abdullahi Kure; Commissioner of Police at the state command, Abiodun Odude; and Garrison Commander, Nigerian Army, 2 Division, Ibadan, Brigadier General Oluyinka Soyele, among other security chiefs. Buhari Increases Police's Salary

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the increase of the salary of the Nigeria Police Force ( NPF) to boost the personnel ’s morale . He assured the men and officers of the NPF that his administration would not relent in giving priority to the welfare and operational needs of the service with a view to restoring its supremacy in the country’s internal security . The President spoke yesterday at the State House , Abuja with members of the Nigeria Police Service Commission and the leadership of the NPF who were on a “thank you” visit for his approval of the Rank Salary Structure Adjustment , which raises the salaries , allowances and pensions of policemen. Buhari stated that the inability of the police to play their constitutional role as the frontline force in the prevention of crime led to the military ’s involvement in civil duties such as maintaining law and order in the country. Hijab Controversy: International School Ibadan Reopens

The International School Ibadan which was shut down on November 19 over the crisis on the use of Hijab by female Muslim students has been reopened. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the school was shut down when some Muslim parents insisted that the use of Hijab was a constitutional right of female children. A visit to the school by a correspondent of NAN on Monday confirmed the resumption of academic studies. NAN also observed that security men from the University of Ibadan had been stationed at the entrance leading to the main gate of the school to maintain law and order. Parents were not allowed to enter the school’s premises and were asked to park their cars outside while their wards entered the premises. A security man at the gate of the school told NAN there was an order by the school management barring journalists and parents from entering the school. Man To Die By Hanging For Beating Mother To Death

A Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos, on Monday sentenced 24-year-old Godwin Banchir, to death by hanging for beating his 65-year-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings. Justice Daniel Longji, handed down the sentence as he found Banchir guilty of killing his biological mother. Delivering the judgment, Longji said: “Going by the findings of this court, you Godwin Banchir, mercilessly took the life of your mother, Saratu Banchir, in cold blood. “This sentence is mandatory, as the law states that any person convicted of murder shall be punished with death by hanging. “The sentence of this court upon you is that you, Godwin Banchir, will be hanged until you are dead, may God have mercy on your soul.” The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the convict was first arraigned on June 6, 2016, charged with culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code punishable with death upon conviction. World Bank , Ekiti To Rehabilitate N 3.7bn Ero Dam Project

Fresh facts emerged on Friday that plans have been concluded by the World Bank and Ekiti State Government to commence rehabilitation work on Ero Dam. The N 3 . 7 billion worth project on the largest water supply dam in Ekiti State is expected to help the state address its water challenges as well as curb open defecation . Dr Khairy Al - Jamal who led the World Bank’ s team on the 3 rd Urban National Water Sector Reform Project stated this in a meeting with Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ado Ekiti. Al - Jamal who noted that the project would have started in 2014 shortly before Dr Fayemi left office , said the immediate past administration did nothing on the award of the project to a contractor. Man Slaughters Daughter For Sacrifice In Benue

The Chairman, Konshisha Local Government, Justina Ubebe, has confirmed the killing of an infant girl by her father, one John Depuun, as sacrificial offering in a village in Tse-Agberagba in the area. Confirming the incident to News Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview on Thursday in Makurdi, Ubebe described the act as “strange and bizarre”. She said the act, which happened on Wednesday night, had already been reported to the police and that the culprit had been arrested.
