Expert Calls On INEC To Introduce E -Voting

Mr Gbenga Sesan , Executive Director , Paradigm Initiative Nigeria ( PIN) has called on the Independent Electoral Commission ( INEC ) to adopt electronic voting system for major elections in the country . Sesan made this disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) . NAN reports that e - voting or electronic voting refers to using computerised voting machines to cast ballots instead of the conventional ballot papers . According to him , voting electronically reduces election rigging especially in areas where inaccessible by the electoral officials . Breaking: Labour bombs Gov’s forum, insists on N66, 500

The Nigeria Labour Congress, Wednesday, condemned the resolutions made by the Nigeria Governors forum over its willingness to pay N22, 500 as minimum wage for workers. Disclosing this in Abuja the President of the union, Mr. Ayuba Wabba opined that NGF was not known to law and was thus an illegal body which cannot give verdict on issues out its jurisdiction. He advised all the governors to return to their respective states and consult with workers, demanding that every governor should pay N66,500 to every worker as minimum wage. Governors To Workers: We Can Only Pay N22,500 As Minimum Wage

The Governors of the 36 States of the Federation have told workers that they can only afford to pay N22,500 as the new National Minimum Wage. The Governors, under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, announced the decision after their meeting on Tuesday night in Abuja. While workers are angling for N30,000 as minimum wage, the Federal Government has offered N24,000. The consensus was reached in the first meeting of the Club held on Monday, 29th of October, 2018 at Jogor Events Centre, Ibadan. Sokoto disburses 220 bags of grains, cash to the needy

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State The Sokoto State Government on Tuesday disbursed 220 bags of grains and N 600,000 cash to the needy. Malam Lawal Maidoki, the Chairman, Zakkat and Endowment Commission, who spoke at the inauguration of the distribution in Sokoto, said the gesture was part of government ’s monthly allocation to the commission. “Today is another important event in the commitment of Sokoto State Government to assist the needy persons and diabetic patients among us who are in need of such assistance. “So, as part of the state government’s support through the commission, we earmarked 200 bags of millet and N 400,000 to share among 200 needy persons, each to get one bag and N 2,000. “In addition to that, we selected 20 diabetes patients each to get one bag of wheat and N 10,000 in order to support their living,” he said

National Minimum Wage: Governors Meet To Take Final Decision

The Nigerian Governors Forum is to hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday (today) to discuss the National Minimum Wage and come up with a position. This was disclosed by the Chairman of the NGF and Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Tuesday. Yari spoke with State House correspondents on the matter after an expanded Economic Management Team meeting at the Presidential Villa on Monday in Abuja. The meeting was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The meeting between the Economic Management Team and State Governors over the new National Minimum Wage on Monday was deadlocked. The meeting, president over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Ailla, Abuja, could not reach a decision on how much workers should earn as new minimum wage. The meeting was attended among others by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; the Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu; Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. Shocking: Five Killed As Soldiers, Shi’ites Clash In Abuja + Photos

Five members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) were reportedly killed in a clash with soldiers in Zuba, Gwagwalada area council of the federal capital territory (FCT). The Shi’ites were in a procession from Suleja, Niger state, to Abuja for a three-day mass protest. Members of the sect were approaching a military checkpoint near Zuma motor park when the soldiers on duty ordered them to turn back and proceeded to barricade the road. The group resisted the directive as they engaged the soldiers in an argument which resulted in a commotion. A witness who pleaded anonymity told TheCable that the Shi’ites resorted to hurling stones at the soldiers. Breaking: Ekiti Lawmaker Shot By Unknown Gunmen

A member of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Adedeji, is now battling between life and death after being shot in the head by unknown gunmen. Adedeji was waylaid in the early hours of Friday while traveling along Ikere-Akure Road by the gunmen who opened fire as he made an attempt to escape from the scene. The lawmaker who represents Ekiti Southwest Constituency 2 was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for intensive care. He was later referred to Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti (FETHI) where is he is expected to undergo neurosurgery in a bid to save his life. The Nigerian Police Force has rescued five members of the National Youth Service Corps kidnapped by unknown gunmen, who were travelling to their orientation camps in Akwa Ibom and Rivers states last Wednesday. Two other passengers on the bus conveying the corps members were also kidnapped. The fresh graduates and the other victims were travelling from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to Rivers and Akwa Ibom states where they were billed to undertake their three-week NYSC orientation, when they kidnapped on the Owerri-Port Harcourt Expressway and taken to the Umuapu forest in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. A 10-year-boy identified as Yusuf has been reportedly drowned in Dandaru river beside Agodi Garden along Mokola-Secretariat road, Ibadan on Wednesday, 24th of October, 2018. According to Source, the boy was said to had mounted a precipice for a dive when he mistakenly slide off and drowned in the river. Also, another source confirmed that, the boy was deaf and he had been abandoned by his parents long time ago. Unpaid N42.3b Gratuities: Oyo Pensioners To Settle Out Of Court

The National Industrial Court sitting in Ibadan on Wednesday fixed November 14 for report of out-of-court settlement in a case instituted by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, against Governor Abiola Ajimobi over alleged N42.3 billion gratuities and pensions arrears. Justice John Peter fixed the date following after listening to submissions from counsel to the parties. He advised that the litigation should not be allowed to drag for long, in the interest of the pensioners. The claimant instituted the case against Ajimobi and five others over unpaid N42.3 billion gratuities and pension arrears of retired primary school teachers and local government workers. The other respondents in the suit are Oyo State attorney-general and commissioner for justice, the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, the state 0commissioner for finance, the accountant-general and the state head of service.
