Sokoto disburses 220 bags of grains, cash to the needy

The Sokoto State Government on Tuesday disbursed 220 bags of grains and N 600,000 cash to the needy.

Malam Lawal Maidoki, the Chairman, Zakkat and Endowment Commission, who spoke at the inauguration of the distribution in Sokoto, said the gesture was part of government’s monthly allocation to the commission.

“Today is another important event in the commitment of Sokoto State Government to assist the needy persons and diabetic patients among us who are in need of such assistance.

“So, as part of the state government’s support through the commission, we earmarked 200 bags of millet and N 400,000 to share among 200 needy persons, each to get one bag and N 2,000.

“In addition to that, we selected 20 diabetes patients each to get one bag of wheat and N 10,000 in order to support their living,” he said

Residents of Aba-Ebira in Oke-Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State has called on the local government authority, under the chairmanship of Mogaji Kola Ajadi and the state government for quick intervention to repair the ruinous Aba-Ebira/Baba-L'egba road, provision of boreholes and steady power. ASUU strike: NANS protests in Abuja, urges FG to resolve crisis

THE National Association of Nigerian Students on Monday stormed the streets of Abuja, to protest over the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The students who came out in numbers asked the Federal Government to fix the education sector. Addressing the students, numbering over 2, 000, NANS President, Comrade Danielson Bamidele, said the Federal Government had been insensitive to the plight of Nigerian students. He also condemned the about 7 per cent allocation to the education sector in the 2018 budget. The students, who matched from the Unity Fountain to Federal Ministry of Education, carrying placards with various inscriptions, said the allocation was seven per cent compared to the UNESCO’s demand of 26 per cent. He recalled that budget allocation to the education sector had not been below 15 per cent since 2013 to 2015, adding that the Nigerian students were tired of how the education system of the country had been managed in the last few years. ...
